New year saw the painting of a mural by Sepr on the Jamaica Street Outdoor Gallery wall in commemoration of the life of CKone. It is understood that he was killed in a motor cycle accident in Thailand before Christmas.

Graffiti is a major component of the look of our streets in Bristol, and Dan Fenlon was a member of the Bristol Graffiti community. Below are three images in memory of his life.

Any of these images can be made available as prints from PRSC if required.

Untimely Death of Liz Krcma, ceramicist and well-loved member of the Community

Liz Krcma died very early in the New Year. She was on an artist’s residency at the International Ceramics Research Institute at Guldagergaard ( www.ceramic.dk )until the end of November 2011, and subsequently got a place on the Kunstnerprojektet KIT in Skaelskor, which is a project subsidised by the Danish Govt., designed to attract professional artists and musicians to work there in that beautiful town . Liz was in the first group of four – a vanguard if you like – and the aim is to have about 25 people involved there eventually.

It is understood that Liz had a seizure from which she did not regain consciousness. Two years previously, she had her first stroke which set her back a bit. Liz showed enormous fortitude had been making great progress, and had been continuing her ceramics career.

A memorial service took place on Saturday at Sancreed Village Hall near Penzance, Cornwall. Her ashes were buried in Sancreed.

Liz worked at Stokes Croft China for the inaugural show in 2009, producing some exquisite pieces of ware,
which remain a testament to her skills as a ceramicist.

Stokes Croft China comes of age, involving our finest local artists in the design of radical china ware, on Fine English Bone China decorated and fired in the PRSC Studios.
Opening night will see the launch of ten unique limited edition china beakers,
production confined to just 100 individually numbered pieces.
Also, unique pieces of fine china from our designers, and the launch of new Dinner Ware.
Artists include Sophie Howard, Katy Bauer, Rose Vickers, Jamie Gillman and Chris Chalkley, as well as Flx, Epok, Sepr and Milk .

Bear Pit Gallery Opens

On the night of October 14th, PRSC put up 20 panels in the subways of the Bear Pit. The materials were funded by Destination Bristol, who, to their credit, had no control of the content of the work, which was decided by local artists working to the loosest of briefs. All artists and PRSC worked for free (Again!) to deliver this exhibition. The atmosphere of the Bear Pit is clearly improved, and is another showcase for Bristol (and Stokes Croft’s) increasingly recognised artistic community.

The pictures below give a flavour of the work, and of the vibrancy of the Bear Pit.

The Bear Pit (St. James Barton Roundabout) will become an Outdoor Gallery as the work of 20 of Bristol’s finest adorn the four tunnels that lead into the Bear Pit. Artists include: Johnny 5, Jon Taphouse (Photographer), 3-Dom, Sepr, Katy Bauer, Jedna Hall and Dones, to name but a few. Organised by PRSC, the tunnels become a gallery and a resource, in line with the thinking behind The Bear Pit improvement Group http://www.the-bear-pit.org.uk, and indeed PRSC. Gentle incremental change in our public spaces, curated by and involving local people is a welcome change from the corporate dominance that increasingly governs the nature of our City.

E. W. Godwin: Civic Society talk

”E.W Goodwin: The Greatest Aesthete Of Them All’”

Edward Godwin was one of Bristol’s most eminent Victorians : archaeologist, architect, designer of highly original furniture and creator of theatre sets and costumes. He was influential in the Aesthetic Movement that created the “look” of Victorian England. He was passionate about Bristol and its architectural legacy, setting up the city’s first Conservation Society.

The event will take place at Redland Park United Reformed Church,
9 Redland Park,
BS6 6SA.

Admission is £6 for non-members and free for members (although a voluntary
contribution of £2 is suggested)
